Board Member Roles and Responsibilities
Board members are asked to contribute in the following ways:
Attend monthly board meetings
Commit to a two year term
Lead a committee. Committees typically meet once a month. Committees may include:
Accessibility, Active Living, Advocacy, Communications, Education, Elders, Events Health & Wellness, Immigrant, Policy & Governance, Programming, QTBIPOC, Safety, Trans & Non-binary, Youth
Offer direction to support the Society’s aims and goals
Attend Pride events and functions when possible
Volunteer as needed
Advocate for the 2SLGBTQ+ community
Pictou County Rainbow Community acknowledges that the work of a board member constitutes a significant investment of personal time and will strive to accommodate all board members to the best of our ability. We appreciate that the demands of being a board member can create barriers to participation, we recognize the ongoing need to identify and eliminate barriers to participation and expand the diversity of experience and voices on the board.
Besides the satisfaction of making a difference, there are many perks to being a board member:
Working with a dedicated team and making wonderful new connections
Board training in things such as anti-oppression strategies, intersectionality, harm reduction, communication, and conflict mediation
Experience in non-profit leadership
The satisfaction of seeing projects become reality
What are we looking for?
Pictou County Rainbow Community needs those who are:
Eager to prioritize trans, non-binary, black, indigenous, new Canadians and other racialized communities.
Passionate about the needs and concerns of Pictou County's 2SLGBTQ+ community
Eager to develop and deliver projects that support social inclusion and empowerment.
Appreciate the challenge of identifying and resolving complex issues
